There appears to be a small bug in the Excel sheet. In cell Z13 (HP), it read '=E13', which is IQ. It should be =E10 (ST); similarly, the cell to its right (Cell AD13) references E13 instead of E10. I've fixed this on my copy.

The Excel sheet also appears to want to charge me 3 points for a Hard Technique (Feint) at skill+4. I'm not actually good enough with Excel to figure out how to fix this (cost should be 5), though I may be doing something wrong - I'm entering T, 2, 20, blank, blank, blank, 24. --Harald387 17:46, 20 March 2008 (CDT)

I'm about to update the spreadsheet again after another round of minor bug stomping.

Thanks for pointing out the issues. And no, you're doing the techniques right - there's a bug in the sheet.

OpenRPG Tokens for the game

Does anyone have a preference for full-on or top-down tokens? Would anyone object to mixing the two? -- Mark

Not really sure what the distinction is. -- Nate
Topdown looks like this: TopdownSample Full-on looks like this: FullonSample
Top down matches that map, but it's a weird angle that you don't normally see. Full-on tokens are easier to recognize and distinguish, but look weird against the map. -- Mark
No particular preferences. -- --Harald387 06:45, 19 March 2008 (CDT)
I vote for top down. --Ericphillips 19:32, 20 March 2008 (CDT)
Top-down gets my vote. -- Nate
Top-down. (Demonsbane)
Top-down (Valinaar)
I don't know if you can rotate the top down in OpenRPG to show facing. If you can't the other is better, and an arrow will show facing. Sorry to bring this up, but I thought I should bring it up. --Ericphillips 23:31, 21 March 2008 (CDT)
OpenRPG can't rotate tokens as far as I can tell, at least not in 1.7.5.

Comparative Screenshots[]

I did some screenshots of Battlegrounds vs OpenRPG.

  • Battlegrounds vs OpenRpg
  • Top down tokens versus full-on.

Battlegrounds RPG has a better map, but I think OpenRPG has a much better chat interface.

Virtual Tabletops[]

OpenRPG 1.7.5 and MapTool 1.3b28 are required to play.

GURPS Die Roller for OpenRPG.

MapTool is a free virtual tabletop with excellent graphics capabilities.

Battlegrounds RPG is an expensive virtual tabletop with strong graphics capabilities.

Fantasy Grounds 2 is a d20 focused virtual table-top with a nice appearance.
