The Silk Road is a caravan track running through the West March between Polisberg and Shigrad. The Abbey of Last Resort is the only inn or caravansary on the route. It is also known as the Steel Road by Shigrad natives.

From Shigrad, it runs due north for about a week's caravan travel, then turns east through a gap in the Kuroy Mountains. It meanders northeast for 10 days through the Govia Plains, going more sharply north as it skirts the Paljanna Waste and Paljanna Mountains. It crosses over the northern foothills of the Paljanna range, then veers southeast past Kirkengard and to the edge of the Kirken Canyon. From there, it's about 3 days hard drive across the Shining Coast to Polisberg.

Ghazeb's Travelogue[]

From Shigrad, the Steel Road goes north through rolling hills and dry plains, with the jagged Kuroy Mountains to the right. It turns east in a gap in the mountains (which are very narrow on their east-west axis, maybe 20 miles?) that is very harsh, with lots of low mesas, plateaus, and sand. It quickly breaks in scrubby plains with lots of brush and short trees visible as far as the eye can see (which isn't far). There are scattered mountains and hills in the distance.

The Govia Plains are flat, with abundant grass, and the rounded tor of the Abbey of Last Resort is the highest point around. Soon the tips of the Paljanna mountains become visible to the southeast as the road turns to avoid them. Kirken Pass is a narrow, deep canyon through the Crow Mountains, and more hills are visible to the north and south. Finally, the Shining Coastal plains are are a smooth slope up from the Antillan Sea to the Dergan Hills, dotted with trees and the occasional copse. The Sylwood Forest is a larger cluster of trees, and then you break into more rolling hills covered in crops as you approach Polisberg.

The only other thing of note is 4-Points Tower, a square tower with a tall spire on each corner and no visible windows or doors. It's visible from the Silk Road, just north of it, and slightly west of the gap through the Kuroy Mountains.
