Narrator: The delvers are in some mountains to the southwest of Polisberg.
Narrator: They have just climbed southwest out of a valley through a forest into a rugged area. Ahead of them, they spotted some goblins, who set off a lightning flare and then moved out of line of sight.
Narrator: Now, the delvers are waiting for the greenskins to approach.
** Thasos is sulking, but ready for battle. **
GM: So let's talk about the map.
Marik: Mark, if I move into those trees to the north and make like I'm one of them, is that too far away from the party? It's about 10-15 hexes.
GM: Red lines indicate areas where the terrain starts sloping down. Downslope direction is indicated by an arrow.
GM: The ground levels out where they grey lines are.
GM: Orange lines indicate more than 3 yds of elevation change.
GM: Trees are trees. Rocks are rocks - they provide full cover but are only about 4' tall so you can see over them.
GM: The delvers can be anywhere they like on this map.
Thasos: Where were the goblins last seen?
Ghazeb: So the delver's current position is at a low elevation then right?
GM: About 600 yards away.
Beltarne: Hm, even being in the trees a little completely eliminates forward field of view
Thasos: in... which direction?
GM: No, you're atop a bluff, thoug there's an upslope.
GM: 600 yards away to the southwest.
GM: Sorry.
Ghazeb: Okay
GM: Hiding in the trees is difficult because these are firs and have dense branches.
Ghazeb: Due South West?
GM: You're at -4 to attack through the branches and -2 to defend.
GM: Roughly, yes.
Firefly: Sorry to bother you mark but I've accidentally stuffed Firefly in some vision blocking.
Marik: Presumably they give some cover, though?
GM: Anyway, Wolfgang and Thasos thought it would take around 10 minutes for the greenskins to go down here.
GM: You're also at -4 to be attacked while in the trees, yes.
GM: Any other map questions? Everyone more or less happy with their position?
GM: You may want to discuss your plans instead of just wandering around and getting lost...
Marik: I'm taking cover and waiting until I see something that needs to be shot.
Ghazeb: Yeah, what's everyone think?
Beltarne: I am. Are we going to abstract aerial reconn, or are Firefly and Wolfgang leery of being turned into pincussions, or what?
GM: Wolfgang will volunteer for that after 5 minutes passed, but we'll get to that in a sec.
Firefly: I'm going to start by casting Missile Shield. Cuz not getting shot is great.
Thasos: do i have my facing right?
Beltarne: Suggested plan: We stick up here, see what they want, and take out the lizards with them first
Ghazeb: I'm guessing they're coming from that SW corner
Firefly: Damnit, my cheatsheet doesn't have duration
GM: Thasos is facing NE. I'm not sure if that's what you want.
GM: 1 minute, Firefly.
Firefly: OK. make that: "Last thign I do is cast missile shield"
Ghazeb: Tell me what you think of where I moved Ghazeb
Beltarne: the southwest hill with the sudden drop, ghazeb?
Thasos: okay, i got it
Beltarne: It's a little far away if you need help or we nee dyour help
** Thasos takes a position where he is in cover from ranged attacks to the southeast but can engage enemies that come close. **
Ghazeb: Yeah, I was thinking it might provide better cover or for a better surprise in the beginning
Ghazeb: but not just for me
Beltarne: THey're gonna outnumber us, we probably want to concentrate our forces and use our superior missle accuracy to whittle them down.
Ghazeb: Fair enough
Beltarne: How many turns would it take you to get to us?
Beltarne: ANyone else have any suggestions?
Firefly: Do you have Watchdog?
Narrator: After about 5 minute pass, Wolfgang says "I think ve should fall back, but fery vell, ve will stay. I fly to scout, neh?" and takes off into the sky.
Beltarne: I do
Firefly: I'm a little worried about them circling around us.
Ghazeb: Who me? I moved back closer to everyone else
Firefly: Sorry, Beltarne
Firefly: It's a spell ;)
Ghazeb: Any proposed solutions to that worry Emily?
Beltarne: Only way I can cover far enough to give us fair warning is to spend a buncha FP
Narrator: As he flies toward the copse, a half dozen crossbow bolts shoot out from 2 concealed positions to the northwest and southwest. Several of them hit Wolfgang, none too seriously. He shouts in surprise and climbs, pulling himself out of range.
Beltarne: it's 1 per radius
Beltarne: 7 just to barely shroud us all
Firefly: Should be half cost - Mark's halved area spells, but that's still not very useful. Oh well!
Narrator: Then he shouts some more,frantically turning and spinning. His wings seem to be caught up in something. He cuts at stuff with his axe, and dives and dodges around, flying away to the northeast.
GM: Beltarne and Firefly suspect he is fighting more manavores.
GM: ... a lot more manavores.
Beltarne: Whee!
Beltarne: ((Extra-whee!))
GM: Anyone doing anything in response? Or just waiting?
Firefly: Well, I can't really cast Explosive fireball on HIM
Firefly: It would be Counter Productive.
Beltarne: ((Waiting))
Marik: I can't really see anything to shoot at to help him? It looks like 'waiting'.
Firefly: At the 8 minute mark I'm dropping Missile Shield on myself.
Beltarne: ((Could you mark the concealed positions on the map?))
GM: The crossbows fired from either side of the copse, a few hundred yards away from you, and out of your line of sight because of intervening hills.
GM: 3 more minutes pass.
GM: Cast your spell, Firefly.
Firefly: I cast missile shield!
Firefly: Missile Shield (18) [3d6.skill(18,5)] => [1,5,3] = 9 vs (23) or less Success! by 14 for [5] => 5 FP
Firefly: crap
Firefly: that's not supposed to be +5
Firefly: that's +1 for battle casting.
Firefly: Still works though.
GM: Right.
GM: 3 minutes pass.
GM: Marik, make a Hearing roll at -4, and your Stealth check
Marik: Stealth: [3d6.skill(19,+1)] => 3d6.skill(19,+1)
Marik: Stealth: [3d6.skill(19,+1)] => [3,5,6] = 14 vs (20) or less Success! by 6
Marik: Hearing: [3d6.skill(14,+1-4)] => [2,4,3] = 9 vs (11) or less Success! by 2
GM: Also, Ghazeb and Thasos can make Hearing rolls at -4.
Thasos: Hearing (13) [3d6.skill(13,-4)] => [6,2,5] = 13 vs (9) or less Failure! by 4
Ghazeb: Hearing [3d6.skill(7,0)] => [5,4,6] = 15 vs (7) or less Failure! by 8
Ghazeb: Forgot the +1, failure by 7
Beltarne: ((+1 for blessing guuys))
Narrator: 3 more minutes pass.
Ghazeb: "We kill green pussbags"
Firefly: "OK, running out of fuel here guys."
Beltarne: "Fiefly, wanna check ttheir position?"
Firefly: "Sure. Where's their position?"
Firefly: "There's this whole problem of we don't have a clue where it is..."
Beltarne: "I was hoping you could tell me by flying around as a remarkable pyromaniacal target"
Narrator: A goblin warrior warily rises from behind a hill to the west of Marik. A low voice calls out to the south, and suddenly lightning splits the air and bolts shoot out!
Firefly: "Ah. Bait."
Beltarne: "Dangerous. heavily armed, fast moving bait, yes"
Goblins: 2 crossbows at Ghazeb! [3d6.skill(15,10-7-3)] => [4,1,4] = 9 vs (15) or less Success! by 6
[3d6.skill(15,10-7-3)] => [6,4,4] = 14 vs (15) or less Success! by 1 both to the heart!

GM: ... hey, Thasos, roll Tactics.
Ghazeb: Dodges then
Thasos: okay, hold on
Thasos: Tactics (10) [3d6.skill(10,1)] => [5,4,1] = 10 vs (11) or less Success! by 1
Beltarne: ((How the hell did they get +10?))
Firefly: (( Aiming? ))
GM: You guys are somewhat surprised by the enemy appearing from the wrong direction, and have -2 on defenses on the first turn.
Beltarne: ((Wouldn't that cap at like +5 or so with crossbows?))
GM: Ghazeb can block or dodge.
Firefly: (( +4 for crossbow, and Mark gives double credit for Aim actions beyond acc, so max +6 ))
Ghazeb: But a +1 blessing to remember
Firefly: Wrong direction?
Firefly: They're in the southwest according to my map.
Ghazeb: okay, two dodoges
Thasos: yeah... wrong direction?
GM: They're coming at you from due south by my map.
Ghazeb: Dodge [3d6.skill(12,-1)] => [5,4,1] = 10 vs (11) or less Success! by 1
Thasos: how is that the wrong direction?
Marik: And west. And Northwest.
GM: 2nd shot?
Ghazeb: Dodge [3d6.skill(12,-1)] => [5,3,2] = 10 vs (11) or less Success! by 1
GM: Hit Thasos? [3d6.skill(9)] => [1,2,2] = 5 vs (9) or less Success! by 4
[3d6.skill(9)] => [1,5,6] = 12 vs (9) or less Failure! by 3

GM: Thasos, you may want to dodge the crossbow.
Thasos: hold up... how does a shot fired from the south at ghazeb end up hitting me?
Shock Lizard: Lightning bolts on Ghazeb [3d6.skill(18,9-7-6)] => [6,3,6] = 15 vs (14) or less Failure! by 1 predictive -6/-3
[3d6.skill(18,9-7-6)] => [2,2,4] = 8 vs (14) or less Success! by 6 predictive -6/-3

Thasos: and how do i use acrobatics for my dodge? i think the rules have changed for it
GM: Because you're clearly in the line of fire?
Thasos: i'm clearly not if the shot came from the south, but whatever...
Ghazeb: I have to dodge lightning bolts now too then?
GM: You don't have to... but you're at -3 if you try. Or you can just take damage.
GM: The shots came from the goblins in the rocks by the clump of trees next to the southwest hill.
Ghazeb: Dodge [3d6.skill(12,-3)] => [6,5,3] = 14 vs (9) or less Failure! by 5
Ghazeb: why -3?
GM: They predicted your dodginess.
GM: Not that it matters.
Ghazeb: It's true, it doesn't matter
Thasos: now my roller won't work :(
Shock Lizard: Damage is [2d6-2] => [4,3,-2] = (5) Burning Electric.
Ghazeb: But I don't understand "they predicted my dodginess"
Beltarne: type /roller gurps
Thasos: i mean the macro from my sheet
GM: Lightning bolt hits Firefly instead? [3d6.skill(9,-6)] => [5,1,6] = 12 vs (3) or less Failure! by 9
GM: Didn't think so.
Thasos: it worked for tactics, now it does nothing
GM: Fight!
Firefly: Deceptive Attack for ranged weapons is "Preditctive attack"
GM: Ghazeb, roll HT at -1.
Ghazeb: Okay
Thasos: Acrobatics (15) [3d6.skill(15,1)] => [5,6,4] = 15 vs (16) or less Success! by 1
Firefly: That's really odd Joel...
Ghazeb: -1 after the +1 from blessing?
Thasos: i can't roll dodge :(
GM: No, there's a -1 penalty, I don't know all your bonuses.
Thasos: Dodge! WIth Acrobatics! [3d6.skill(11,1+2-2)] => [4,6,1] = 11 vs (12) or less Success! by 1
Thasos: i'll do it manually, but FIRST i want to know how i can use acrobatics to dodge
Ghazeb: Health [3d6.skill(13,0)] => [5,6,2] = 13 vs (13) or less Success! by 0
Marik: ((In general, Mark will give you a penalty and you apply your own bonuses. =)))
GM: Uhm, yes.
GM: Thasos can dodge acrobatically.
Thasos: good enough
Ghazeb: Thanks Kevin
Marik: ((Thasos: I'll explain it in MapTools.))
GM: Sorry.

1) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Ghazeb
(on deck: [28] Thasos)

Ghazeb: So, does the health roll mean I took no damage?
GM: No, it means you weren't stunned by the electricity.
Ghazeb: Okay
Ghazeb: That sounds more like it
Ghazeb: And the DR takes 2 off
Thasos: btw, i made that tactics roll, what happened to it?
GM: The goblin made a better tactics roll, but not good enough to achieve partial surprise.
Beltarne: ((They out-tactics us))
GM: If you had done really well, you could have forced them into stun with your well-prepared counterattack.
Ghazeb: I think my best bet is to just run a bit closer and for cover
GM: Could be. Where you going?
Ghazeb: I'll get cover from there, will I?
GM: You have to turn, and your move is only 6.
GM: So you can't get there. but you would have cover.
GM: That's good enough.

2) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Thasos
(on deck: [28] Marik)

Ghazeb: sounds good
Thasos: how do you measure distance again?
GM: Little blue ruler on the left of the buttons bar.

GM: Errr.. right of the buttons bar.
Thasos: what's the range on bolas?
GM: 39 yards. You would have to draw them first.

Beltarne: ((Wild magic?))
GM: By the way, the local mana level just dropped to Low in the last minute.
GM: (no, wild is a 7)
Firefly: Success by 8 reduced to success by 3!

Ghazeb: two successes that is?
GM: 2 attacks, 2 hits.
Ghazeb: let's do an acrobatic dodge on one of them, just to be safe
GM: Roll Acrobatics first.
Ghazeb: Acrobatics [3d6.skill(17,+1)] => [3,5,2] = 10 vs (18) or less Success! by 8
Ghazeb: what penalties might I have to dodge?
Ghazeb: nothing?
Ghazeb: +2 for cover? +2 for acrobatic dodge?
Beltarne: ((-1 for predictive shot))
GM: -2 'cause you're in the limbs of a tree and it's hard to dodge with them confining you. +2 for dodge. +1 bless. -1 prediction.
GM: Net it is 0 for this shot, -2 for the other shot.
Ghazeb: dodge yeah, alright
Ghazeb: got it

GM: 'kay.

1) YOUR TURN NOW:: [28] Ghazeb
(on deck: [28] Thasos)

Ghazeb: Readying a potion would mean only stepping, right?
GM: And dropping a weapon, yes.
GM: You may want to push through the trees and break line of sight.
Ghazeb: sheathing the sword would also be a ready manuever then, and I'd have to wait to do it right?
Ghazeb: In which case, that's my turn
Thasos: you might want to step and ready
GM: You can fast sheathe, but it's 2 maneuvers. You can give up your defenses to move and start the sheathing process.
GM: 'kay.

Beltarne: FInish mioving through trees
Beltarne: ###
GM: Range is 10, Marik.

Giant Eagle: One of them makes an all-out attack to grapple him! [3d6.skill(16,-4)] => [6,5,1] = 12 vs (12) or less Success! by 0 DA-4/-2
Giant Eagle: Also grapples his right arm! [3d6.skill(16,-2-2)] => [6,5,2] = 13 vs (12) or less Failure! by 1 DA-2/-1
Giant Eagle: Or not but hey.
Giant Eagle: Eagle 1 does a fly-by, emitting green vapors everywhere in the vicinity of Thasos and Ghazeb!

GM: Thasos, what are you doing about being grabbed by an eagle?
Thasos: what are my options?
GM: You're at -2 to defend for his sneakiness, and -2 to defend for him coming from above.
Ghazeb: dodge, parry?
GM: Dodge, I think.
Marik: Dodge, Brawling Parry (Horns), Karate Parry.
GM: Your weapon isn't ready.
GM: Oh, right. You have those, too.
Thasos: let me check...
Beltarne: ((He's a marital artists. He IS a weapon))
Thasos: i'm not seeing brawling parry horns on my sheet... what would my roll be?
Marik: Brawling defaults to DX.
Marik: So DX/2+3, +1 for combat reflexes.
GM: Uhm... DX/2+4.
Marik: So 12, I think.
Thasos: and karate parry? would that be punch parry for this?
GM: Yep.
GM: It's also your Judo parry for what that's worth.
Beltarne: ((Oh, judo parry then thrrow!))
Thasos: Ah, how about grabbing him back?
GM: You can try that on your turn.
GM: But step one is defend.
GM: Uhm... the Judo parry gives you more options if it succeeds.
Thasos: alright, looks like my best option is judo parry
GM: Roll it.
Thasos: Karate * Punch parry [3d6.skill(11,2)] => [5,5,3] = 13 vs (13) or less Success! by 0
GM: ... you're at -4 penalty.
GM: So fail.
GM: You have been grabbed.
Thasos: oh
Thasos: remember the bless and the CR, but not the penalties :P
GM: CR is included in all your parries.

Beltarne: All out defend, double defense
Beltarne: ###
GM: Oops. Marik takes his waited shout.
GM: err, attack.
Marik: Oh hey, so I do!
Marik: -2 range, +6 aim, +3 acc?
GM: Yes.
Marik: Step to the north face of the rock and fire. For the skull. -4/2 predictive.
GM: okay.
Marik: Bow: [3d6.skill(20,+3+6-2-9+1-4)] => [3,6,6] = 15 vs (15) or less Success! by 0

Beltarne: ((Stay near the healer or don't get hit))
GM: You can open and drink it now, but you'll lose defenses. Or open it and then drink it.
Ghazeb: alright, no need to step
Ghazeb: yup, and take advantage of cover
Ghazeb: and remember that bonus from the shield
Ghazeb: i'm done
GM: Which are you doing? All-out ready and drink, or just ready?
Ghazeb: all out ready and drink would mean no defense right?
GM: Right.
Marik: Correct.
Thasos: right
Ghazeb: so, i can do two ready manuevers in one turn if it's all out?
GM: Yes.
Ghazeb: could i have done that last turn?

Ghazeb: .............
GM: No, let's move on. Thasos turn.
